    Jill,
I really like the first e-pal project. Have you started it? How is it going? Do you plan to start it?

We could each have a wiki and the students could be members of each. We could go back and forth between the 2 wikis with different subjects on each....
    Other ideas?
    I'm thinking......
communicate through e-pals and each class has their own wiki and the address to the other ones so they can comment on progress of plants.
Students could also take video and up load it for the other classes to watch or as a means to "communicate" seeing each other....we only have the one skype camera in our building....

    21st Century Skills:
This yearlong inquire growing project promotes learning through collaborative problem solving, self-direction and responsibility. The project is interdisciplinary in core subjects by its nature, as it requires the comprehension and application of science and math concepts, as well as communication of ideas. Students will enhance their knowledge of technology through data collection and reporting their findings.
In collaborative teams, students will analyze plant growth on a small scale and apply their learning from the classroom to across the street and around the globe. This comprehensive study will allow students to become aware of environmental and health issues by studying erosion, water quality, cells, heredity and cross-pollination, and effects of weather and light on growth. In student awareness, they will be able to apply their learning to identify ways they can take action towards addressing environmental challenges and health risks.
Overall, in growing a Microfarm, students will be challenged to utilize their scientific knowledge while demonstrating effective collaboration and critical thinking skills. It will be an evolving project based learning experience that promotes meaningful, memorable application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of ideas and takes learning outside the classroom walls and into the “real world”.

Students will generate theories relating to how their plants grew, and create an experiment to test for possible contaminents or other additives in the water.
Students will determine how weather effects the growth of plants by creating diferent conditions for the plants to live in ie. windy/fan, humid/inside a container.
